Europe's publishers hold seminar for media correspondents: "Improving Communication of EU Media and Media-related Issues"

16 September, Hotel Renaissance, Brussels (no registration fee)

An informative and practical seminar is being held by the European Publishers Council (EPC) in Brussels on 16 September to de-mystify the complexities of media regulation and legislation at EU level and to facilitate the reporting of issues of importance to journalists and media organisations.

Presentations by representatives of the European Commission, European Parliament and Brussels press corps as well as by leading EPC members will ensure that delegates will, in the future, be able to find and interpret information emanating from the European institutions for the benefit of straight-forward and informed media reporting of issues of direct interest to them.

Relevant issues include pan-European media ownership, copyright, e-commerce, libel laws, advertising regulation and internet regulation, for example.

EPC Chairman and CEO of Impresa in Portugal Mr Francesco Pinto Balsemão said: “We are consulted on a day-to-day basis by the institutions on a raft of issues with direct relevance to the media industry. We find, however, that journalists are often put off from reporting on them due to the perceived complexity of the EU processes. It is essential that the European public be made aware of proposed and adopted legislation which has a direct impact on their lives - for all issues not just for ours. However, we will be focussing on current legislative issues which require the attention of media reporters across the EU. This seminar will provide journalists with the knowledge and tools for accurate and topical reporting, as well as in-depth briefings on the most pertinent issues. This is an ideal networking opportunity. Anyone reporting on media issues should attend.”

There is no fee but delegates are requested to register for the event by the end of July by returning the registration form or by contacting Heidi Lambert Communications on Tel: +44 1245 476 265 or
